Thirsa Mcnamara won second prize in the 22nd Chinese Bridge Proficiency Competition for College Students in Ireland

On 14 April 2022, the 22nd Chinese Bridge Competition for University Students in Ireland, hosted by the Confucius Institute in Dublin, was successfully concluded. Four students from the Confucius Institute at UCC participated in the competition, among which the third-year student Thirsa Mcnamara impressed the audience with her speech and unique talent display, and finally won the second prize. Daire McCann, a freshman from Confucius Classroom in Maynooth, also won the third prize with his outstanding performance.

The competition was divided into two rounds: the preliminary round and the final round. In the preliminaries, after a free speech and a talent show, a total of eight contestants were selected from 19 university students to enter the final in the afternoon. The finals consisted of a speech on the theme of "One World, One Family" and a talent show, and after a fierce competition, one first prize, two-second prizes, three third prizes and two most promising prizes were awarded.

The other two contestants from Cork Confucius Institute, Daniel Ciampoli and Tiziano Marceca, also performed well in the competition. Although neither of them had been learning Chinese for a long time, they showed their learning achievements to the audience very well through this competition and also let everyone feel their enthusiasm and efforts in learning Chinese.

Every year, the "Chinese Bridge" competition is a feast for Chinese learners, which not only builds a platform for the contestants to showcase themselves but also connects the cultural exchange between China and Ireland, which is very meaningful. The Confucius Institute at UCC attaches great importance to this Chinese Bridge competition, and the teachers have made great efforts in all aspects of the competition, from promoting the competition to guiding the students to participate.
