UCC Students Win Runner Up Prizes in Chinese Bridge Competition

On April 7th, 2018 the Irish leg of the 17th World University Chinese Bridge Competition was held Dublin

More than 20 Students form the country’s third level institutions gathered at the Riu Plaza in the Gresham Hotel, On Dublin O’Connell Street. Among the participants were six UCC students. Claire McGuiness, a first year; second years Eoin Meikle, Simona Balantua and Kabair Bernaird Cuffe; Han Si Ni a third year; and fourth years Vincent Conway and Sinead Leila Crehan. 

Han Si Ni in our college presented a piece of Chinese dance named “House of Flying Daggers”. Kabair played the song “ Write Love in the City” for everyone on the guitar. Their wonderful performances won the praise of both the judges and the audience and won them joint third prize.

China’s ambassador to Ireland gave a speech to close the competition. In his speech, he congratulated all the participants for successfully attending and taking part while praising their spirit and commitment to learning Chinese.

He continued to say the Chinese Bridge Competition aims to tie countries together trough cultural exchange and along with other related education efforts has profound implications on Ireland-China relations. He expressed his hope to see the competition grow in popularity while deepening the friendships between the countries and individuals.
