UCC Confucius Institute Wins Institute of the Year Award

UCC’s Confucius Institute recently won the Confucius Institute of the Year Award at the Global Confucius Institute Conference, the 2019 International Chinese Language Education Conference held at Changsha, China. 

 

The award is a great accolade for UCC’s Confucius Institute, its Chinese partner institution, Shanghai University, and its Chinese Co-Director, Catherine Xu. 

UCC’s Confucius Institute was founded in 2007 and provides Chinese language teachers supplied by CI Headquarters and Shanghai University for schools in Ireland and for teaching Chinese language classes in UCC. There are 550 Confucius Institutes worldwide and 27 won the Confucius Institute of the Year award.   The award is the second that UCC’s Confucius Institute has won since its founding.

Professor Mark Poustie, Dean of the School of Law, accepted the award on behalf of UCC President Patrick O’Shea.  The awards were presented by TIAN Xuejun, China’s Vice-Minister of Education.
