Irish Educators Delegation Visits Shanghai to Promote Multi-Level Educational Exchange and Cooperation

8 Apr 2026

From 8 to 12 April 2026, an Irish educators delegation organised by UCC CI visited Shanghai to promote multi-level educational exchange and cooperation in both higher and secondary education.

The delegation was led by Mr Shen Liang, Chinese Director of UCC CI. Members included Ms Helen Catherine McGrath, Vice Dean for Teaching and Senior Lecturer at Cork University Business School; Dr Patrick Cooper, Lecturer and Co-Director of the MSc Management and Marketing Programme at Cork University Business School; Ms Mary Teresa Ruane from the UCC Asian Studies Institute; as well as secondary school representatives Mr Patrick Finucane, Deputy Principal, and Ms Eva Corbett, Transition Year Coordinator.

During the visit, the delegation engaged in academic exchanges at Shanghai University and held meetings with representatives from the Office of Basic Education, the International Education College, and the School of Economics. Shanghai University warmly welcomed the delegation and introduced its achievements in talent development, academic disciplines, and international cooperation.

The delegation also attended a lecture on “China and Shanghai” and participated in site visits, further deepening their understanding of China’s national development and urban transformation.

As an important platform for international educational exchange, UCC CI played an active bridging role throughout the visit, facilitating communication and cooperation between Chinese and Irish institutions across different educational levels.

The visit further strengthened the partnership between University College Cork and Shanghai University while expanding opportunities for future China-Ireland educational collaboration.
