UCC unveils new Remembrance Bench
The UCC remembrance bench has been officially unveiled. In memory of the students, staff and alumni of UCC who have passed, this new bench will provide a place to honour their memory and legacy.
Located at Perrott’s Inch, the remembrance bench and associated paths and landscaping is situated alongside the banks of the South Channel of the River Lee at UCC’s Lower Grounds. Adjacent to the Cavanagh Bridge, the location - chosen for its tranquil setting – serves as a fitting place for quiet reflection to honour the memory of those students, staff and alumni, who are no longer with us.
Speaking at the opening, President John O’Halloran said: “I hope that this will be a special place for those in our community to remember a loved one, where they can find comfort and healing. This beautiful new bench will serve as a lasting reminder and celebration of their life here on campus. May all those in our community who have gone before us, Rest in Peace.”
President John O’Halloran, SU President Colm Foley, and Ann Marie O’Sullivan, Chair of the UCC Alumni Board spoke at the official opening as representatives for UCC staff, students and alumni.
The UCC remembrance bench was developed by UCC’s Buildings and Estates and designed by O’Donnell + Tuomey Architects\Brady Shipman Martin with the support of the Chaplaincy, the Student’s Union and colleagues in Human Resources.
This project was partly funded thanks to the generous philanthropic support facilitated by Alumni and Development UCC.
