170+ alumni and friends support #GivingTuesday

On 28 November, UCC alumni and friends showed their spirit and generosity for the university’s first #GivingTuesday. Thank you to the 174 donors around the world who generously donated over €22,000 in support of the UCC Alumni Fund.
#GivingTuesday is a global day of philanthropy that sees thousands of charities and institutions around the world come together to rally stakeholder donations to support their causes. It is celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the shopping events of Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
“We are so proud of what we were able to achieve together, and look forward to updating the alumni community on the impact their support,” said Kerry Bryson, Director of Business Development and Advancement and CEO of the Cork University Foundation. “The funds raised will empower the university to continually reimagine what is possible on campus, and help build the UCC we want for students.”
The UCC Alumni Fund welcomes donations of all sizes, and uses the funds to support urgent and transformational projects that enrich the overall UCC student experience. Examples of projects include funding additional hours for student mental health counsellors, expanding the UCC Peer Support Programme by training students to support peers with autism, furnishing the Hub Maker Space, a multi-disciplinary work area that encourages experimentation and collaboration, and many more.
The UCC Alumni Fund is overseen by a Grants Approval Committee, which reviews project applications that are made directly by UCC students or the UCC Students’ Union.
Thank you to all who participated in this amazing day. If you would like to support the UCC Alumni Fund, you can make a gift online. All gifts, of any amount, make a profound impact for UCC students.
