British Council's 2026 UK-Ireland Alumni Reception

The British Council, in association with the British Embassy in Ireland, are delighted to host their 2026 UK-Ireland Alumni Networking Reception at UCC in February. This special event has been a highlight of UK-Ireland engagement in recent years, bringing together alumni who studied at higher education institutions across the UK, who are now based in Ireland.

Launched in 2024 at the British Ambassador's Residence at Glencairn, and followed by a wonderful gathering at the British Embassy in Dublin in 2025, the 2026 UK-Ireland Alumni Reception in Cork will be the first of this series of annual events to be held outside Dublin, and will celebrate the strong higher education links between the UK and Ireland amongst academics and alumni.

Hosted by Dr Amanullah de Sondy, Head of the Study of Religions at UCC, the reception will be opened by President of University College Cork, Professor John O’Halloran, and will feature key speakers, including the British Embassy’s Deputy Head of Mission to Ireland, Patrick Reilly; Ireland’s Consul General of Scotland, Jerry O’Donovan; the British Council’s Director of International Student Mobility, Catriona McCarthy; and Head of UCC’s College of Business and Law, Professor Thia Hennessy.  The evening will conclude with a networking reception in the historic surroundings of the Aula Maxima.
