JANSSEN SCHOLARSHIP PRESENTED BY:-

Colm O’Donovan, Senior Manager for Technical Operations at Janssen Sciences Ireland

Janssen Pharmaceuticals Sciences UC has also been operating in Cork since 1981. Janssen Sciences Ireland UC established its operation in Ringaskiddy in 2005 on a 100 acre site with an investment of €400 million. For more than 25 years we have been a global leader in the field of biomedicines, in particular pioneering monoclonal antibody technology, a cutting-edge approach to producing medicines that launched a new generation of products to treat immune related diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and plaque psoriasis.
Janssen Sciences Ireland are part of Johnson and Johnson. At their facility in Ringaskiddy they produce drug substance for the market as well as to support clinical trials for new treatments. They are currently undergoing a major expansion to introduce more capacity for large scale production.

Applications are invited from 2nd year students and short-listed to eight students who are interviewed by staff from Process & Chemical Engineering, Michael Cleere, Engineering Manager and Colm O’Donovan, Janssen Senior Manager for Technical Operations from Janssen Sciences Ireland.

Scoring for the scholarship:- 20 marks for the Leaving Certificate 20 marks for 1st year UCC results

60 marks for the interview. - Enthusiasm (15 marks) - Leadership Potential (15 marks) - Innovation (15 marks) - Interpersonal skills (15 marks)
