19 May 2015

Dr Jackelina Pando Kelly and UCC medical students, Dept. Paediatrics and Child Health,

Jennings Gallery, UCC

21st May – 27th August 2015

Tales from the Andes is an exhibition of photography capturing the simple, but profound beauty of the people of the Andes, their daily life with its moments of happiness but also with its struggles.

Dr Jackelina Pando Kelly is originally from Peru. She did her paediatric training in Ireland and she has been working as a Clinical Lecturer at the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at UCC since 2011.

She worked at the Mama Ashu Hospital as a volunteer on several occasions. Since 2012, she has been taking UCC medical students to Peru, to do an elective rotation at Mama Ashu Hospital during the summer. The photographs depict the beauty of the rural town of Chacas, the local population and its surroundings. Chacas is one of the many hidden and lost towns that lie between the shadows of the stunning snowy peaks and the brown and green colours of the Andean mountains.

This exhibition is also a fundraising activity for the Mama Ashu Hospital and all the funds raised will be used directly to purchase medicine for the hospital - http://gogetfunding.com/project/fundraising-for-mama-ashu-hospital-peru/

The Exhibition opens on Thursday 21st May and runs until Thursday 27th August 2015.
