The School of Engineering, welcomed Dr Barry Hayes, who took up appointment as a lecturer in Electrical Engineering this week.  Dr Hayes comes to UCC, having previously lectured at National University of Ireland Galway.  He has substantial International and industrial experience, including a three year Marie Sklodowska-Curie research fellowship at the IMDEA research institute in Madrid, Spain; four years as an engineer working for Intel and his PhD studies were undertaken at the University of Edinburgh.  He as also had visiting research periods with the National Grid UK, and at the University of Tennessee in the USA.

Barry’s research focuses on the integration of renewable energy technologies into electricity networks, and the new application of information and communication technologies to electrical power distribution and utilisation.  He has over 30 publication in International Journals with a rapidly rising citation record (current h-index: 12) and is already an IEEE Senior Member.  His expertise substantially strengthens the School’s electrical power engineering capability, which is a priority area linking well to the Centre of Marine and Renewable Energy (MaREI) at UCC.  We look forward to having him on our team!
