Recently Launched Calls

The 2025 EU4Health Programme second wave of open calls have launched. There are nine calls in this second wave in the areas of: Cancer, cardiovascular and other non-communicable diseases (€39M); Health system and healthcare workforce (€2M); Digital transformation (€14M), and; Dissemination and events (€0.6M). UCC Research budget deadline: 22 December; Call deadline 07 January 2026.

The Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership (SBEP) – Joint Call 2025 is now open under the title Digitalisation and Innovation for Resilient Marine Ecosystems, Businesses, and Communities to Strengthen the EU Blue Economy’s Competitiveness. The two National Funding agencies - Research Ireland and Marine Institute are participating in this call. Irish applicants can apply for a duration of 36 months (for upto a maximum of €405,000) under the five Eligible Priority Areas as supported by the National Funders. UCC Research budget deadline: 31 October, 2025. Deadline for pre-proposals submission: 17 November 2025, 15.00 (CET).

The Royal Irish Academy Ireland-Scotland Bilateral Network Grants are now open, with a theme of ‘Community and Diaspora’ for 2025. Funding of up to £12,500 is available for projects between 3-6 months in duration, must have a Scottish partner. UCC Research Budget deadline 14 October 2025; Call Deadline 22 October 2025.

The Research Ireland 2026 Government of Ireland Postgraduate and Postdoctoral calls will support master's, PhD, and Postdoctoral researchers in any field.  UCC Research Endorsement Checklist deadline 08 October 2025; Applicant Deadline 23 October 2025; Mentor/Supervisor deadline 06 November 2025. Calls Opening Soon

The Health Research Board (HRB) is pre-announcing the upcoming HRB Summer Student Scholarships for 2026. This scheme will support undergraduate students to conduct short summer health or social care research projects of 6-8 weeks in duration from June-September 2026. Potential Supervisors: please share this call with prospective students. Anticipated opening date 29 September 2025.

The Clean Energy Transition (CET) Partnership – Joint Call 2025 is co-funded by the EU in collaboration with Research Ireland (RI) and Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) under the 10 Call Modules to accelerate the clean energy transition and to contribute the goal of climate neutrality by 2050. Project Consortium must consist of a minimum of three Beneficiary Partners, at least two must be from EU Member States. Additional criteria from RI and SEAI apply. UCC Research budget deadline: 25 September 2025, Pre-proposal deadline: 9 October 2025, 14:00 (CEST).

The Marine Institute Research and Innovation Call 2025 will support the alignment of marine research and innovation activities with national and EU-level strategies and policy frameworks. The expected investment by the Marine Institute is €1,400,000 for six to eight awards under the 2025 call for a duration of 9 to 18 months (Desk-Studies) or 24 to 36 months (Medium-Scale Projects). The application process for the Research Ireland support to attend the Lindau Laureate Meeting Awards for the 75th Annual Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting for Interdisciplinary researchers is underway. Nominees can be postgraduate or postdoctoral researchers who have demonstrated excellence in the intersection of at least 2 of the Nobel Laureate Disciplines Physics, Chemistry and Physiology or Medicine or at the intersection of one Nobel Laureate discipline and another discipline from the social or natural sciences.

UCC has an internal process for nominations, as only 3 nominees from UCC can be submitted to Research Ireland. UCC Research Deadline 26 September 2025; Call Deadline 09 October 2025.

The Research Ireland Innovating in Health and Wellbeing Challenge is open to interdisciplinary, collaborative teams (both STEM and AHSS) to compete for a €1 million prize to develop effective, scalable and sustainable solutions to complex health and wellbeing challenges in Ireland, specifically solutions that focus on prevention, equity, and continuity of care.

The European Rare Diseases Research Alliance (ERDERA) has launched a constantly open call, which supports the organisation of transnational networking events that promote knowledge sharing, research uptake and collaborations among clinicians, researchers, and patients/patient advocacy organizations (PAOs). These events will strengthen new or expanding research networks on rare diseases and rare cancers in general and promote the inclusion of typically underrepresented countries (UCs) in European rare diseases and rare cancers networks in particular. With funding of up to €30,000 per networking event, the scheme is open from May 2025, offering a flexible framework for building the connections essential to meaningful knowledge sharing in rare disease and rare cancers research. The calls will be open until funds are exhausted which is expected in April 2029. Applications can be submitted at any time but are reviewed in six-monthly collection rounds starting from October 7, 2025. Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSCA) Staff Exchanges 2025 funds short-term international and inter-sectoral exchanges of staff members involved in research and innovation activities of participating organisations. The call is open to consortia of universities, research institutions, businesses, SMEs and other non-academic organisations. Call deadline 08 October 2025.

Call topics include: Understanding how infections foster and induce non-communicable diseases; Towards precision medicine: platform for transdiagnostic stratification of brain dysfunction; AI-powered signal detection in pharmacovigilance; Leveraging Europe's expertise to accelerate cell therapy for type 1 diabetes; Establishing ortho and cardiology ambulatory surgical centres in Europe. Short proposal submission: 09 October 2025, 17:00 Brussels time; Full proposal: 29 April 2026, 17:00 Brussels time.
