Contract Research Staff-scandal of cheap casual labour

At the recent NQAI Conference on Research at Farmleigh, he (Paddy Healy) forcefully raised the scandal of the subjection of research staff ("postdoctoral fellows") to a system of cheap casual labour with inadequate pension provision.
These colleagues are not students. They are eminent highly-qualified employees of the Institutes and of the Universities. They are making great personal sacrifices to advance learning. All research staff, irrespective of field of study, must be given continuity of employment with professional salary scales and pensions.
As a lecturer and research physicist and lifelong trade unionist he is very determined that fellow researchers be treated as full career professionals.
