UCC recognises School of Pharmacy researchers' outstanding achievements at 2022 UCC Research Awards

University College Cork (UCC) celebrated its exceptional researchers at the 2022 UCC Research Awards, held on 1 June 2023. 

The School of Pharmacy stood out for its remarkable contributions to research and innovation, with three distinguished awardees leading the way. Prof Brendan Griffin, Prof Anita Maguire, and Dr Piotr Kowalski were recognized for their outstanding work, showcasing UCC's unwavering commitment to pushing boundaries, expanding knowledge, and enhancing its research profile.

Honourees from the School of Pharmacy:

Prof Brendan Griffin - recipient of the Research Collaboration of the Year award for his work on the The InPharma European Industrial Doctorate network. Launched in 2022 the InPharma consortium was awarded €3.5m under H2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions 2020 Innovative training Network (ITNs) programme to support public -private collaboration among numerous multi-national pharmaceutical companies.

Prof Anita Maguire - recipient of the Career Achievement Research award as the PI of a research team in Organic and Pharmaceutical Synthesis since 1991, with 56 PhD graduates from the team and attracting €25M in research funding in addition to €13M funding for research infrastructure.

Dr Piotr Kowalski - recipient of the Early-Stage Researcher of the Year award for the significant contribution and ground breaking work he has completed to the development of novel biomaterials for messenger RNA (mRNA) delivery.
