Students from the MSc Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Systems (QP Masters) programme visit Regeneron Pharmaceuticals

13 Mar 2018

Students of the MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Systems recently visited Regeneron Pharmaceuticals at Raheen in Limerick for an industrial site visit as part of their QP Masters Workshop. Regeneron Pharmaceuticals launched their Industrial Operations and Product Supply facility in Raheen in 2015 and it is now the largest-scale bulk biologics production facility in Ireland.

During the site visit,  Eamonn Gleeson, Director of Quality welcomed the group to Regeneron and gave an overview of the company, the products it manufactures and the growth of the Irish facility over the past number of years. Shane McSweeney, Process Scientist outlined the manufacturing processes from R&D through to production. Students were then given a tour of the upstream and downstream manufacturing suites.

The MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Systems is a two year part –time distance learning course, run by the School of Pharmacy, UCC,  aimed at graduates who currently work in the Pharmaceutical industry and wish to fulfil the EU educational requirements for Qualified Person (QP) status.  Graduates who complete this course and have the relevant work experience are eligible to apply to the HPRA or EU regulatory authority to register as a QP. Site visits to pharmaceutical facilities are organised as part of the three day workshops held in UCC at the end of each semester.

Many thanks to Eamonn Gleeson, Stephen Keane and Orla Deady and their colleagues for facilitating and organising the site visit.
