On Monday 8 September, the School of Pharmacy was delighted to host the annual MPharm Business Seminar to welcome our MPharm students to the new academic year and inspire them for the future.

The session was opened by Prof Brendan Griffin, Dean of the School of Pharmacy. The School was delighted to have guest speakers covering a broad range of topics. The day included a presentation from Stephen Duggan (Pharmaconex), who spoke about career support in pharmacy and the importance of resilience. Thomas McDonald (Partner, PKF Brenson Lawlor) explained the nuances of acquiring and financing a pharmacy in Ireland.

McCabe’s Pharmacies was represented by Denis O’Driscoll (Superintendent Pharmacist) and Lisa McCarroll (Talent Acquisition Specialist), who highlighted the career opportunities within the group.

We were also delighted to host Clare Fitzell (Head of Strategic Policy, Irish Pharmacy Union), who shared insights into the IPU’s work in promoting and advocating for the pharmacy profession during a time of significant development for community pharmacy. Uniphar was represented by Shane O’Neill (Director of Pharmacy) and Frank Olden (Supervising Pharmacist and Uniphar Teacher Practitioner at the UCC School of Pharmacy), who explained more about careers in community pharmacy and the opportunities ahead for students.

As part of the seminar the School was also delighted to host Fergus Nugent (Mater Hospital), Patrick Grace (MSAT Senior Engineer, Johnson & Johnson Ireland and School of Pharmacy alumnus), and Laura Dillon (HSE Spark Innovation Programme and School of Pharmacy alumna), who spoke about their career pathways and experiences, providing valuable advice for our MPharm students.

Later in the day, the School of Pharmacy hosted its annual Prize Giving Ceremony, recognising students for their outstanding academic achievements in areas such as clinical pharmacy, pharmaceutics, pharmacology, and pharmaceutical chemistry. The School extends its gratitude to the generous sponsors whose support makes these awards possible.
