School of Pharmacy in the Cork Carnival of Science: Engaging the Public on Bugs, Antibiotics and Antimicrobial Resistance!!

8 Jul 2019

The School of Pharmacy was delighted to be able to participate in the first Cork Carnival of Science on Saturday, 22nd June 2019.

Dr Suzanne McCarthy and Dr Teresa Barbosa collaborate with the e-Bug project, an initiative led by Public Health England with 26 international partner countries, whose aim is to educate children and young people about microbes, hygiene, and the spread, treatment and prevention of infection.

Our day involved meeting and engaging with young people on microbes, how to effectively wash hands and the importance of appropriate antibiotic use.

The event was attended by more than 10,000 people and was very motivating to see so many enthusiastic and curious young scientists!

Well done to the Organising team and the Cork City Council and Science Foundation of Ireland for funding this fantastic STEM engagement event!
