Congratulations to Christian Waeber, Professor of Pharmacology at University College Cork, Head of the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and joint appointee in the School of Pharmacy, who has been awarded the 2025 John Feely Medal by the Irish Association of Pharmacologists.

The medal, presented on 14 November at the Association’s annual meeting in University College Dublin, is the organisation’s leading honour and recognises one researcher each year for sustained contributions to pharmacology on the island of Ireland. Previous medal recipients include Professors Philip Routledge (Cardiff University),  Michael Rowan (Trinity College) and Thomas MacDonald (University of Dundee).

Since joining University College Cork thirteen years ago, Prof Waeber has played a central role in strengthening pharmacology research, teaching, and postgraduate training. His work spans drug development, migraine and stroke research, and controlled-release drug-delivery platforms. His leadership in stroke research led to the establishment of the Munster Integrated Stroke Research and Education Catalyst in 2023, supporting regional collaboration and training.

Prof Waeber has authored more than 150 research papers and has been cited over 31,000 times. At UCC, he has contributed to curriculum development, ethics oversight, and the mentorship of early-career researchers. His selection for the Feely Medal recognises his long-standing impact on pharmacology and his significant contributions to the university.
