MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology & Quality Systems visit Amneal Ireland Ltd.

Students of the UCC MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Systems recently visited Amneal  Ireland Ltd in Cashel for an industrial site visit as part of their QP Masters Workshop.

 

Amneal Ireland Limited is a generic drug manufacturer based in Cashel, Tipperary. It's part of Amneal Pharmaceuticals – who develops, manufactures and distributes generic pharmaceutical products and is currently the 5th largest U.S. generics manufacturer in number of prescriptions. The facility in Cashel is dedicated to the manufacture of metered dose and dry powder inhalers (MDIs and DPIs) – all high-end specialty medications.

 

During the site visit,  Gearoid McDermott , Site Director welcomed the group to Amneal and gave an overview of the company, the strategic role of the site at Cashel as Amneal’s first manufacturing facility for inhalation products. Fiachra O’Leary, Amneal Process Engineer, gave an overview of DPI and MDI processing. Students were then given a tour of the manufacturing suite and laboratory.  Kuldeep Joshi, Head of Quality, led a discussion on batch release scenario with the QP Class.

 

The MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Systems is a two year part –time distance learning course, run by the School of Pharmacy, UCC,  aimed at graduates who currently work in the Pharmaceutical industry and wish to fulfil the EU educational requirements for Qualified Person (QP) status.  Graduates who complete this course and have the relevant work experience are eligible to apply to the HPRA or EU regulatory authority to register as a QP. Site visits to pharmaceutical facilities are organised as part of the three day workshops held in UCC at the end of each semester.
