Our 2025 School Assembly talk was delivered by Dagogo Hart, a UCC Pharmacy graduate and Nigerian-Irish writer, poet, and theatre-maker. Through his talk, entitled ‘Why Everyone Should Be an Artist’, he shared the many benefits that art can bring to our lives, brought to life by powerful performances of his poetry.

He explained how art, in its many forms, enables us to express who we are, deal with difficult emotions such as love, heartache and grief, capture a memory or feeling, and even time-travel to an earlier moment or past experience. Dagogo also spoke about how his work in pharmacy has influenced his artistic practice, and how being an artist has, in turn, enriched his role as a pharmacist. He highlighted how embracing art can foster deeper empathy for patients’ lived experiences, ultimately leading to more meaningful and fulfilling patient–pharmacist relationships.
