Third Year Poster Session and Prizegiving Event 2025
Today’s event which took place in North Wing Council room was the culmination of many weeks of lab based research undertaken by third year BSc Microbiology students overseen by dedicated staff who supervised their work.
Group 6 (pictured above) who won best poster prize for their work entitled 'Screening Soil Bacteria for Antibiotic Activity: Isolation and Identification' were presented their prize by Professor David Clarke. Carmel Shortiss is the main organiser of this event and Dr Niall O'Leary is the coordinator of the lab based Module MB3016 Methods in Microbiology.
Professor Clarke welcomed everyone and acknowledged students for their achievements. Dr Helen Grimes O'Cearbhaill, who travelled from Galway especially for this occasion, presented the Professor Michael Grimes award for top academic 4th year student to Saoirse Flavin. The Tadhg O’Mullane award for top academic 3rd year student was presented to Catríona Condon by Dr Monica O'Mullane and Stephen O’Mullane. The Johnson and Johnson award for top academic 4th year in Biotechnology was presented to Jamila Liani by Professor Clarke.
