Can the Bacteria in Your Gut Explain Your Mood?

Last week (23rd June 2015) the New York Times magazine addressed this question.  UCC's Professor John Cryan was one of three scientists interviewed for the article which notes that "a team of researchers at University College Cork, in Ireland, and McMaster University, in Ontario, published a study [in 2011] in Proceedings of the National Academy of Science that has become one of the best-known experiments linking bacteria in the gut to the brain."

The paper, with UCC researchers Javier A. Bravoa, Hélène M. Savignaca and Professor Ted Dinan as co-authors, is one of several from the The “Brain-Gut-Microbe Axis” theme led by John and Ted.  The team are an intergral part of UCC's Alimentary Pharmabiotic Centre.
