Poster win at the Catherine McAuley School of Nursing and Midwifery Conference

Congratulations to members of our research team, Ms. Elizabeth Weathers, Dr. Nicola Cornally and Dr. Edel Daly who were awarded joint first prize for the poster presentation entitled 'Planning for End of Life: a Systematic Review of Randomized Controlled Trials' at the recent 14th Annual Catherine McAuley School of Nursing and Midwifery Conference in UCC.

The central theme to this year’s conference, hosted in the Brookfield Health Sciences Complex, UCC on Friday 7th November 2014, was ‘Translational Research’ and approximately 60 delegates from diverse clinical and academic backgrounds attended. The opening session of the conference was chaired by the newly appointed Chief Nurse of the South/South West Hospital Group, Ms Bridie O’ Sullivan. The conference highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary and academic research with a focus on ‘translation’ to promoting quality patient care. Key Note speakers included Professor Christine Norton (Chair in Clinical Nursing Practice Research, Kings College London), Dr. Christopher Burton (Senior Research Fellow, Bangor University), and Professor Catherine Fowler (Tresillian Chair in Child and Family Health Faculty of Health, University of Technology, Sydney). The conference included several oral presentations focused on diverse topics such as chronic illness, autonomy, moral distress, strategic planning, and health inequalities. Poster presentations covered a range of diverse topics including job satisfaction, attitudes to ageing, community health needs assessment, and nursing metrics.
