Return to UCC Walking Tour

UCC’s Cork Alumni Club hosted “Return to UCC”, a walking tour led by JP Quinn, Head of Visitor Services.  The 90-minute walk brought alumni through familiar landmarks such as the Quad and its iconic limestone buildings, while also exploring newer parts of campus.  The tour uncovered stories, traditions and hidden corners of the university for a most enjoyable trip down memory lane.  Following the tour, guests continued the conversation over refreshments in the Alumni Room. UCC Women Graduates' Association Annual Dinner

The UCC Women Graduates’ Association Annual Dinner took place in the Aula Maxima on 26 September. Guests enjoyed an inspirational presentation by Dr Val Cummins (Author, Scientist, Presenter and Leader in Ocean and Renewable Energy): ''From Harbour to Horizon: A Career Shaped by Purpose", followed by a Q&A. Attendees enjoyed reconnecting with old friends and making new connections over the course of a very special evening of conversation and celebration. View Photos

Autumn glory on campus

A lovely September evening for a tour of UCC Arboretum with Dr Barbara Doyle Prestwich and Dr Eoin Lettice of UCC’s School of Biological, Earth and Environmental Science, in the company of UCC Women Graduates’ Association. Highlights included a beautiful Monterey Pine from California, the Weeping Willows by the Alumni Bridge, a Strawberry Tree which is native to Iberia, Brittany and the southwest of Ireland, a Wollemi Pine, often described as a “living fossil”, having been discovered only in 1994, and two Giant Sequoias. Students and alumni come together for a mindful morning

The first University College Cork X Deloitte Alumni Breakfast series event was a huge success, with a full room of students, alumni, and friends coming together for a morning focused on 'Mindfulness & Wellbeing: Performance & Resilience'. The morning started by getting moving with a fantastic Pilates session, led by alum Abbey White, before coming together over some breakfast nibbles for a really engaging conversation around performance, resilience, sleep, movement and wellbeing. Thank you to Deloitte for sponsoring the breakfast and helping create these opportunities for students and young alumni to connect, learn and build relationships beyond the lecture hall. 

An evening of community, bringing Cork alumni together at the beautiful Nano Nagle Place

In collaboration with Cork Convention Bureau and Fáilte Ireland, the Cork Alumni Club invited alumni to a wonderful evening exploring all that our city has to offer, with brilliant insights, great conversations and delicious food from Good Day Deli. Club Chair, Anthony Gaffney, introduced the evening’s key theme which centred on “connection” and Evelyn O’Sullivan and Karen McCarthy spoke about the great range of supports available from Cork Convention Bureau for individuals and organisations who wish to bring conferences and global gatherings to Cork. Nano Nagle Place is a vibrant space where heritage, community and social justice come together. We heard from two members of the UCC alumni community who are helping shape its future - John Smith (CEO of Nano Nagle Place) and Dr Naomi Masheti (Cork Migrant Centre), who spoke of the inspiring work taking place there today. Thank you to the CCB and Fáilte Ireland for their support of this event, to the UCC Cork Alumni Club committee, to our wonderful speakers and to Nano Nagle Place, Good Day Deli and everyone who joined us! From the Lee to the Huangpu – UCC Alumni China Chapter met again in Shanghai!

Organised by the UCC China Office, alumni and friends gathered at Guinness Social in Tianzifang for an evening of connection and celebration with talks from Dr JB McCarthy, Vice Dean, Internationlisation and External Engagement of Cork University Business School and Caroline Zhou, current DBA student representative. It was a nice mix of familiar faces and new connections. Many shared a common bond having worked together on group projects! The event highlighted the strength and warmth of the UCC community in China.
