UCC Academy Raise Funds and Awareness for Cork Simon Community
UCC Academy has donated €200 to Cork Simon Community after 14 members of staff walked, cycled and ran 2,344 kilometres throughout August as part of a Distance Challenge organised by Ian Dooley and members of the company’s Sports and Social Committee.
Designed to support employee wellbeing by encouraging staff to be active ‘together’ while working apart, the Distance Challenge was embraced by participants who literally hit the ground running, leaving the 500-kilometre target set by the Committee for dust during the opening week of the initiative.
By the end of the month, each participant averaged a staggering 167km, leaving Ian and the members of the Sports and Social Committee in little doubt as to the popularity of the challenge and the appetite for similar initiatives in future.
Following a popular vote, staff chose to donate €200 to Cork Simon Community, a charity that has been active in Cork for over 50 years, and continue to work towards a society without homelessness.
