The Institutional Research Information System (IRIS ) is an easy-to-use, web-based application that allows researchers to maintain, update and publicize their research profiles. This information can then be re-used in multiple formats for different purposes including Quality Review submissions, Research Quality Review submissions, grant applications etc. In addition, when published, a researcher’s profile is available for viewing via their Department/School/Institute website.

A key additional benefit of IRIS is that it will significantly enhance the efficient and timely dissemination of UCC research strengths to key national and international stakeholders.IRIS also provides a framework for meeting the requirements of funding bodies with respect to disseminating research outputs.

Key benefits for the UCC research community include:

  • Real-time, personal control over the display of researcher profiles on School web pages.
  • Duplication of effort is removed as profile data is reusable in a variety of formats.
  • Profiles are easy to keep up to-date — publications can up-loaded from reference management software (EndNote) or citation databases (PubMed, Web of Knowledge).
  • Seamless integration with the Cork Open Research Archive (CORA) — UCC’s institutional repository — and with the HR and Student databases, and the Book of Modules.
  • IRIS also allows accurate measurement and analysis of research output activity to support effective strategic planning.
