Sports Leadership Team

Sports Leadership Steering Group

The Governing Body of UCC approved the UCC Sports Strategy and the University Management

Team (UMT) agreed to establish a Sports Leadership Team (SLT) to draw together all strands

of sport and physical activity in UCC in a single leadership group aligned to oversee the

implementation of that Strategy. The Sports Leadership Team is comprised of the following

members:

The Sports Leadership Steering Group shall:

  • Update and conduct periodic reviews and evaluations of the Sports Strategy to assess its effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and make recommendations for enhancements or revisions as needed.
  • Consultation with stakeholders, including SDOs, Coaches, sports clubs, teams, athletes, and other members of the UCC community, shall be solicited and considered in the review process.
  • Ensure that an implementation plan for the UCC Sports Strategy (including any updates appropriate to the 2023-2028 UCC Strategy) is in place and provide progress reports on same.
  • Ensure consultation and communication with the Student Body and other key stakeholders in relation to sports.
  • Provide recommendations on the prioritisation of the development of external sports facilities at Mardyke Sports Grounds and UCC lands in Curraheen and other appropriate sites.
  • Provide strategic leadership to the Sports Capital Development programme and once agreed, is delivered according to the plan.
  • Examine options for the management of external UCC sports facilities post-completion of capital developments.
  • Ensure that a service level agreement is developed between the Department of Sport and Physical Activity, Mardyke Arena DAC, the UCC Clubs Executive and UCC Clubs to enable delivery of the Sports Strategy.
  • Ensure that the Department of Sport and Physical Activity, and Mardyke Arena DAC work in a collective manner to enable the best provision of sport in UCC.
  • Support and provide guidance where necessary to the Sport in UCC in the development of a co- ordinated approach to marketing, commercial activity, and branding in order to build a common approach on the UCC Sport brand, across all UCC entities, raising profile, partnerships and commercial opportunities for UCC Sport and Physical Activity, that is in alignment with UCC overall commercial / brand identity
