Orienteering is an exciting and challenging sport that combines running or walking with navigational skills. The goal is to navigate between marked points on a specially designed map, using natural or man-made features to select your routes. While races are timed, participants can choose to be as relaxed or competitive as they like!
This sport allows you to explore diverse landscapes across Ireland and beyond, from sunny beaches and windy open mountains to scenic forests. Whether you prefer a leisurely walk to enjoy the surroundings or a competitive run to push your limits, orienteering caters to all preferences.
Orienteering suits all ages and fitness levels. In our club, you can run, jog, or walk around an orienteering course, choosing a course that matches your skill level. We warmly welcome beginners and are always happy to show you the ropes.
In competitive orienteering, the aim is to complete a course as quickly as possible. UCC boasts a rich history of success, having won numerous inter-varsity championships and events. This year, we aim to secure the men’s inter-varsity championship title for the third consecutive year.
We hold events around UCC throughout the year and occasionally travel to orienteering events around the country. These include the Munster championships, the Inter-varsity championships, and various local events. If you enjoy exploring new areas, getting off the beaten track, or simply adding variety to your run or walk, then orienteering might be the perfect sport for you!
