Welcome to UCC Dance, we're based in the Mardyke Arena and cover several dance forms. We cater for beginners through to advanced.
About Us
UCC Dance Club offers a welcoming college dance experience for all its members. Our club prides itself on being open to all levels of dancers. Whether you're trying dance for the first time, looking to meet new people, or aiming to dance competitively at a collegiate level, UCC Dance has something for everyone.
We offer both open and advanced classes in Jazz, Contemporary, Irish, and Hip-hop, along with open and intermediate classes in Ballet. Auditions are held at the start of each semester for those interested in joining the advanced teams, while open classes are available to dancers of all skill levels.
As a club, we are committed to raising money for charity each year through various events. These include table quizzes, a “workshop” week, and performances. Our biggest charity fundraiser is ‘So UCC Thinks It Can Dance,’ where different clubs and societies across UCC team up with our dancers to learn and perform a routine in front of an audience and a panel of judges. Last year, this event raised over €4,000 for the UCC Irish Guide Dogs Society.
Once a year, our advanced teams compete in inter-varsities against colleges from all over the country. In 2024, the inter-varsities took place in ‘The Helix’ in Dublin, where we secured 1st place in Jazz, 2nd place in Contemporary, and 3rd place in Mixed Piece. One of our dancers, Elena Behan, received the Outstanding Performer award in the Jazz category, and our advanced jazz teachers, Ava Moynihan and Elena Behan, won the Jazz Choreography award. We were also delighted to receive the spirit of inters award, which is a testament to the joy, kindness, and support that we display as a club.
At the end of each year, we host an end-of-year showcase where all our members, from both open and advanced classes, get to display the work they’ve done throughout the year. This event is always a huge success and great fun for everyone involved!
