Mardyke Sports Grounds

Overview

The Mardyke Sports Grounds is just a short five-minute walk from the main campus. This historical sports ground is home to many UCC sports clubs, as well as being a focal point for all students, staff and supporters of UCC.  

The site consists of: 

  • The Prunty pitch – soccer / rugby pitch
  • The Synthetic pitch
  • The Sonia O’Sullivan Athletics track
  • The GAA Pitch 
  • The Mardyke Pavilion 
  • The Mardyke Arena is home to many UCC clubs activities. This state of art facility consists of: 
    • 25m swimming pool 
    • Weights & Cardio gyms 
    • Aerobic and dance studios 
    • Climbing wall  
    • Physio services  
    • Human Performance Lab (see below) 
  • Human Performance Lab is a special feature of the UCC Sports facilities. The service is headed up by Exercise Physiologist, Trevor Woods. All UCC staff and students can avail of the services to have their fitness and health status professionally assessed

Athletics Track

The UCC athletics track is closed for the foreseeable future for health and safety reasons.  UCC is working closely with its Student Union & Clubs Execs on an outdoor sports facilities master plan, that includes the running track. In the coming months UCC aims to be in a position to update its sporting community, including its athletics community, on this plan.

Grass Pitches

GAA Pitch

Our GAA pitch is home to UCC GAA teams across all four codes: Gaelic Football, Hurling, Ladies Football and Camogie, as well as our Aussie Rules men’s and women’s teams. This pitch is a fabulous venue for the best of GAA teams.

Prunty Pitch

Steeped in history, this playing field has been the home of UCC sport since 1911. Hosts UCC Rugby matches in the AIL League, usually on Saturday afternoons. Also home to UCC Soccer in the FAI CUFL leagues. This venue features modern floodlights and can accommodate over 800 spectators in the covered stands, and offers close-up views of the matches from all angles.

Synthetic Pitch

This water-based pitch is headquarters for UCC Hockey club. Most weekends during the academic year you’ll find one or more of the Hockey teams playing here. It is also ideal for casual bookings by UCC Students and staff for recreational or society sporting activities.

Mardyke Pavilion

The Mardyke Pavillion is our club house. The building consists of eight dressing rooms on the ground floor with a bar and function room overlooking the grounds from the renovated upper floor.

The function room is available for hire throughout the year, please contact us for more information.

Mardyke Arena

The Mardyke Arena is home to many UCC clubs activities. This state of art facility consists of:
