The Annual Women in Medicine in Ireland Network (WiMIN) Conference was held in Galway on 21 March.

The Theme of the Conference was: “Are We There Yet?”. Session II, called “Failure to Progress” featured talks around parenthood, pregnancy, pregnancy loss and infertility and was chaired by Ms Ailín Rogers, Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and an Assistant Professor at University College Dublin. In this session, Professor Keelin O’Donoghue gave an invited oral presentation on Pregnancy Loss at Work, highlighting key findings from the PLACES Project, ongoing policy and advocacy work, and the free workplace resources available that her Group has developed, including a toolkit for employers and employees. She distributed copies of ‘Words at Work’, a collection of texts which illuminates lived experiences of pregnancy loss at work, drawing on direct quotations from the PLACES Project. The resources were very positively received with many highlighting their practical value on a professional and personal level. Professor O’Donoghue is also a collaborator on the Motherhood and Medicine project led by Dr Sinead Lydon of the University of Galway, who also addressed the conference in this session.

The Women in Medicine in Ireland Network (WiMIN) was founded in 2017. The aim of WiMIN is to bring together women from all stages of their medical career, in all specialities and grades, to share their experiences and to learn from each other. WiMIN hopes to advocate and support all women in medicine to help them to achieve their career goals, and to promote leadership and personal fulfilment
