The School of Pharmacy at University College Cork welcomed a delegation from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, for a full day of discussions on education, research and practice.

The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, part of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is internationally recognised for excellence in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences. It is ranked the No. 1 School of Pharmacy in the US and fifth globally for Pharmacy & Pharmacology in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026.

The delegation included Kim Brouwer, Interim Dean; Stephen Eckel, Associate Dean for Global Engagement; and Jon Easter, Associate Dean for External Relations. The visit was co-ordinated by Professor Abina Crean, Head of the School of Pharmacy, and included a welcome from Professor Stephen Byrne, Deputy President and Registrar, and Professor Ursula Kilkelly, Vice-President for Global Engagement.

Discussions explored student exchange and experiential learning, regulatory science and medicines development, collaborative research and funding opportunities, and clinical, rural and community pharmacy practice. The visit also provided an opportunity for the delegation to meet undergraduate and PhD students, while identifying areas for future collaboration and partnership between UCC and UNC.
