UCC School of Pharmacy Showcases Patient and Public Involvement Partnership at HSE Conference
From research evidence to meaningful patient and public partnerships!
The UCC School of Pharmacy was delighted to contribute to the HSE Patient and Public Partnership Conference, held on 15 October 2026 in Cork, under the theme “From Islands of Partnership to System-Wide Practice and Policy.”
MPharm student Seán Meskell, Dr Edel Burton, School of Pharmacy, and Carmel Geoghegan, Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) contributor, presented their work entitled “Learning from International Experience: Using Evidence from a Scoping Review to Strengthen a Growing Clinical Pharmacy and General Practice Patient and Public Involvement Partnership.”
The presentation showcased findings from Seán's fourth-year pharmacy research project, exploring international approaches to developing and sustaining meaningful PPI partnerships in healthcare research.
Conducted in collaboration with Professor Laura Sahm (School of Pharmacy), Dr Elizabeth O'Donnell and Professor Emma Wallace (Department of General Practice, UCC), the research will help shape the future direction of the UCC Clinical Pharmacy and General Practice PPI Partnership.
The presentation highlighted the importance of translating research evidence into practice and ensuring that patients and members of the public play a meaningful role in shaping research priorities, decisions and outcomes.
