UCC Quercus Scholar Olga Andriyashchenko Gains Invaluable Research Experience in Mental Health During HRB-Funded Internship

Olga Andriyashchenko is a BPharm4 student and UCC Quercus Scholar who recently completed an 8 week summer internship after competitively securing funding via a HRB Summer Studentship award.
Olga worked under the supervision of Dr Rachel Moloney and Dr Patrick O'Dwyer, a collaboration between Pharmacology and Pharmaceutics. Olga was based in APC Microbiome Ireland and worked on a project aimed at developing new therapies for mental health conditions.
Reflecting on her experience, Olga shared:
During my summer internship at the APC Microbiome lab, I gained an invaluable and eye-opening first experience of conducting a research project. Most importantly, it taught me to work independently and in a team, critically analyse my findings and finally, be open to and prepared for the unexpected. This experience has shaped me into a better researcher and student and will guide me in my future pharmacy career.
