UCC Pharmacy student wins award from the National University of Ireland

3 Feb 2022

Congratulations to MPharm student Elaine Cullinane who won second place in the Dr H H Stewart Medical Scholarship in Pharmacy.

The Dr H H Stewart Medical Scholarships and Prizes are offered in a range of subject areas across Medicine, Nursing & Midwifery and the Health Sciences, and are based on examination results in the Faculties and Schools of Medicine and Nursing of the constituent Universities, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and St. Angela’s College, Sligo. The prizes are supported with a bequest from the estate of Dr Henry Hutchinson Stewart and were first awarded in 1888.

Elaine Cullinane won second prize at this year’s awards for her literature review, which was completed during her 4th BPharm year under the supervision of Dr Eoin Fleming. Dr Fleming has expressed his pride that one of UCC’s Pharmacy students has been awarded such a prestigious national prize, and is delighted that Elaine’s hard work and efforts have been recognised. Her review on oncogenic B-Raf displays a thorough knowledge of the topic, and an understanding of the key research challenges that are being addressed in Dr Fleming’s lab.
