The School of Pharmacy, UCC invites applications for our PhD studentship scheme 2023

The School of Pharmacy, University College Cork invites enthusiastic, creative, and driven candidates with a track-record of excellence to apply to our School of Pharmacy PhD studentship scheme 2023. Under this scheme we are seeking to recruit outstanding, full-time PhD students to work with world-leading academic supervisors and PIs in the School of Pharmacy, in a pharmacy specific research discipline.

PhD Learning environment

The School of Pharmacy was ranked in the top 100 in the QS World Rankings by Subject in 2023. It is part of the College of Medicine and Health, providing students with a dynamic and interactive research environment and rich opportunities to work with multidisciplinary academic teams and network with world-class scientists and clinicians. The School of Pharmacy hosts an international postgraduate student community and has a Ph.D. program that supports all career aspects, including professional development, research training, and everyday work.

Funding and supports: The studentship provides up to three years funding, covering doctoral programme tuition fees (EU fees) and an annual stipend of €19,000 per year (subject to satisfactory progress in studies each year).

Information for Applicants:

Research proposals that align with the School of Pharmacy and UCC’s research priorities are strongly encouraged. 

Prospective candidates must have a first class or upper second-class honours degree in pharmacy or a cognate discipline.

All applicants whose first language is not English must provide evidence of English language proficiency. To view the minimum English language requirements currently accepted at University College Cork please click here.

The successful candidate must submit a formal application through the University application system where qualifications will need to be validated. The prospective PhD applicant to be funded by this studentship must all meet all entry requirements for registration as a PhD student. 

The successful candidate is expected to register for their PhD programme between September and December 2023.

How to Apply

Prospective candidates are recommended, in the first instance, to contact an academic supervisor in the School of Pharmacy, University College Cork to discuss potential research projects, and who will agree to support the application.  A list of potential academic supervisors and their chosen research areas may be found on the School of Pharmacy, University College Cork, website. Applicants must have engaged with a potential supervisor based in the School of Pharmacy, UCC in the preparation of their research proposal, and have their agreement to supervise the PhD, if successful. Applications without the explicit agreement of a supervisor will be deemed ineligible.

In the case of applicants where English is not your first language, you must also provide evidence that you meet the English language criteria as set out by UCC.

Applicants must complete and submit the signed application form. Please note that candidates who do not submit a fully completed application form (and evidence of satisfying the English language requirements where required) by the specific deadline will not be considered. Please note that we reserve the right to check any submitted proposal for originality.
