Students of Third International Summer School at UCC School of Pharmacy enjoy academic and cultural experiences during their stay in Cork
International students from FUE have successfully completed the Industrial Pharmacy Summer School, the third Summer School run by the School of Pharmacy in UCC. The International Summer School is one element of an ongoing collaboration between UCC and FUE, whereby UCC supports the FUE in the delivery of enhanced pharmacy topics to students of FUE.
Sixteen students and two staff members from FUE quickly settled into life in Cork, enjoying both their academic experience in the beautiful UCC campus, and the cultural aspect of their trip, which included sightseeing in both Cork and Kerry.

Students learned about pharmaceutical drug development and manufacturing, quality assurance processes, and pharmaceutical drug registration in the EU from subject experts at the School of Pharmacy. Additionally, students attended experiential site visits at the Biopharma Training Centre and Abbvie Cork. At the Biopharma Training Centre, students received practical training demonstrations of sterile gowning procedures, as well as learning about chemical and biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes. At AbbVie, the student received a site tour of the GMP manufacturing facilitates, including an overview of the granulation, compression and coating production suites and associated analytical QC laboratories.

In addition to the academic schedule, a range of cultural activities were organised, to ensure that the visitors to UCC enjoyed a well-rounded exchange experience. Students thoroughly enjoyed a trip to Cobh, which included a visit to the Titanic Experience and Spike Island. The visitors were lucky enough to have experienced Inchydoney beach on a sunny Sunday, which was a highlight for many. Of course, no trip to Ireland would be complete without experiencing a céilí and the Céilí Cois Locha provided the perfect opportunity for the visitors from FUE to learn a few steps. The closing ceremony for the Summer School took place in the Aula Maxima in UCC and was a wonderful evening of celebration for the students who successfully participated in the Summer School and of Irish music and dance.
