Wonderful to see such great representation from Ireland at the 14th PBP World Meeting in Vienna.

We had ten PhD students presenting posters from the UCC School of Pharmacy highlight cutting edge research from the SSPC on diverse approaches for oral and transdermal drug delivery. There were two IRC awardees presenting on computational approaches for oral drug product development and electrospun polymer implants for ocular delivery.

We also had excellent representation from European funded projects from Inpharma, Colotan and Merck Group with research focused on colonic drug delivery and lipid based formulations.

The CDT in Transformative Pharmaceutical Technologies was represented by two posters one on oral peptide delivery and one on primary packaging coatings which was investigated in collaboration with TheraDep Ltd.

Not only did our students get to showcase their research but Professors Brendan Griffin and Caitriona O’Driscoll were invited speakers who discussed the uses of artificial intelligence for drug formulation development and the oral delivery of nucleic acids for site specific action for ileal Chron’s disease which is the focus of the Genegut consortium.

The impact of Irish, European and industrial collaborations as seen at PBP will no doubt continue to have a transformative impact on pharmaceutical research in the future.
