Retirement of Dr Ken Devine
Staff and students, past and present, gathered in the Pharmacy Building on 25 May 2026 to give a memorable send-off to Dr Ken Devine, Chief Technical Officer, who has retired after a career at University College Cork spanning almost four decades.
The event had a 'finishing line' theme, reflecting Ken's long association with UCC Athletics Club and his three consecutive National Road Relay titles in the Men's Over-50 category. It was a chance for those present to look back on his years in the School and thank him for all he had done.
Ken joined the School in 2004, shortly after its establishment, and became the person people turned to when problems arose, whether with research equipment, teaching laboratories or the day-to-day challenges of a busy school. His expertise supported numerous research projects within the School, and he was a co-author on more than 30 peer-reviewed publications during his career.
Before joining Pharmacy, Ken came to UCC in 1987 as a researcher in Plant Science, where he went on to complete an MSc and a PhD.
His calm, reassuring presence was felt by staff and students throughout his time in the School, and he will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of working with him. The School of Pharmacy wishes him a long and very happy retirement.
