MPharm Students Gain Insights into Pharmacy Careers at Business Seminar

On Monday 11 September, the School of Pharmacy was delighted to host the MPharm Business Seminar.

The Session was opened by Prof Laura Sahm, Vice Dean of the School of Pharmacy.  The School was delighted to have guest speakers covering a broad range of topics.  The day commenced with an overview of careers in community pharmacy, by Dermot Twomey, President of the Irish Pharmacy Union. The business of acquiring and financing a pharmacy was addressed by Thomas McDonald, Partner with JPA Brenson Lawlor. Lloyds Pharmacy outlined the many different perspectives of working within the community pharmacy taking a number of different viewpoints.  For example, Hillary Collins, People and Culture Director gave an insight into Lloyds approach to its people and their culture.  The role of Clinical governance was outlined by Martin Hynes, Clinical Governance Pharmacist.  The many facets of working as a superintendent pharmacist was delivered by Denis O’Driscoll and talent acquisitions was discussed by Susan O'Meara, Lloyds Talent Acquisitions Manager.

As part of the seminar the School was also delighted to host Alana Dineen, CUH Maternity Hospital Pharmacist, Tom Concannon, Superintendent Pharmacist with Uniphar, Frank Olden, Community Pharmacist with Uniphar and Maura Kinahan Internal Medicine & Hospital Medical Lead with Pfizer.  They spoke about their journeys to their current roles and candidly described their experiences.
