MPharm Business Seminar 2024: Inspiring Futures and Rewarding Excellence

On Monday 9th September, the School of Pharmacy was delighted to host the annual MPharm Business Seminar to welcome the MPharm students to the new academic year and inspire them for the future.
The Session was opened by Prof Brendan Griffin Dean of the School of Pharmacy. The School was delighted to have guest speakers covering a broad range of topics. The day included a presentation by Laura Romero, Managing Director of Pharmaconex, on how they can support a career in Pharmacy and the importance of resilience in supporting your pharmacy journey. Thomas McDonald, Partner PKF Brenson Lawlor, explained in detail the nuances of acquiring and financing a Pharmacy in Ireland. McCabes Pharmacy was represented by Denis O'Driscoll Superintendent Pharmacist, Karen Ferris Senior HR Business Partner, and Susan O'Meara Talent Acquisition Manager, highlighting the opportunities available at the McCabes Pharmacy group.
We were delighted to host Clare Fitzell, Head of Strategic Policy, Irish Pharmacy Union on her work promoting and advocating for the pharmacy profession in a time of significant developments for community pharmacy. Uniphar was represented by Tom Concannon Superintendent Pharmacist and Elaine Creech Community Pharmacist and UCC Teacher Practitioner who explained more about a career in community pharmacy and the opportunities ahead for students.
As part of the seminar the School was also delighted to host Geraldine O'Rourke, MUH National Cancer Information System Project Lead, Regina Lee Senior Pharmacist National Ambulance Service, and School of Pharmacy alumnus Patrick Grace MSAT Senior Engineer, Johnson and Johnson Ireland. They spoke about their journeys to their exciting roles and candidly described their experiences, providing valuable words of advice for our MPharm students.
Later in the day, the School of Pharmacy hosted its annual Prize Giving Ceremony, recognising students for their outstanding academic achievements in areas such as clinical pharmacy, pharmaceutics, pharmacology, and pharmaceutical chemistry. The School extends its gratitude to the generous sponsors whose support makes these awards possible.
