Funding success for Dr Laura J Sahm and Dr Aoife Fleming under the Shared Island North-South Research Programme

31 Aug 2022

Congratulations to Dr Laura J Sahm and Dr Aoife Fleming, School of Pharmacy for their recent funding success under the Shared Island North-South Research Programme.

Under Strand II, the Hub of Excellence: ‘All-island Vaccine Research and Training Alliance (AVACTA),’ UCD will lead a collaborative effort between UCC, TCD, QUB and itself to develop better vaccines to prevent difficulty in treating bacterial infections. This funding will offer the opportunity to train 15 researchers to provide the next generation of vaccine experts who will support the growing vaccine industry and public health policy on the island.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Minister for Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science, Simon Harris, awarded a total of €37.3 million to 62 collaborative research projects between academics and institutions in Ireland and in Northern Ireland under the first funding call from the North-South Research Programme.

The North-South Research Programme is a collaborative scheme funded through the government’s Shared Island Fund. It is being administered by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) on behalf of the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.

We are now seeking to promote an exciting PhD opportunity in the School of Pharmacy UCC!
