Fourth-year Pharmacy Students Take Part in Erasmus+ BIP in Murcia, Spain
Ten fourth-year UCC Pharmacy students travelled to Murcia, Spain, from 25–29 September 2026 to take part in an Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) hosted by UCAM Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia.
The programme brought together pharmacy students from UCC, UCAM and Portugal, giving participants the opportunity to work in international teams and learn alongside peers from three European universities.
Across the week, students took part in workshops focused on inhaler devices and complex dosage forms, together with role-play and clinical simulation activities designed to strengthen patient counselling and pharmaceutical care skills.
The programme also combined classroom learning with visits to community pharmacies, giving students a chance to see pharmacy practice in a different setting. Students also had time to explore Murcia’s pharmacy heritage and the city’s historic centre.
The experience provided an opportunity for students to broaden their understanding of the profession, develop practical and communication skills, and gain experience of learning in an international Erasmus+ environment.
The UCC students who took part were:
- Ellen Catherine Bracken
- Hannah Juliet Buckley
- James Vincent Byrne
- Niamh Conroy
- Ciaran Culleton
- Isobel Hynes
- Adam Neary
- Oran Eamon Neville
- Sophie Lynda Rafter
- Joel Sunil Varghese
The students were accompanied by Dr Aoife Fleming and Ruth McCarthy, who helped enable their participation in the programme and supported them throughout their time in Murcia.
The School of Pharmacy is delighted to support international learning opportunities such as this, which allow students to engage with different approaches to pharmacy education and practice while building connections with future pharmacists across Europe.
