UCC is Seeking External Members for its Governing Authority
On 17th July 2026, UCC will launch a call for expressions of interest for external members of its Governing Authority. Two external members will be selected from this call to take office on UCC’s Governing Authority from 8th November 2026.

Role of Governing Authority and UCC’s Strategic Plan
Governing Authority is tasked with the overall governance of the University and provides active strategic direction and leadership to enable the University to succeed in its mission of education and research. UCC is seeking individuals who can make a substantial contribution to the effective and efficient performance by Governing Authority of these functions.

Candidate Profile
The University is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified candidates to fill two positions of external member on the Governing Authority of University College Cork.
Candidates should have a career history at a sufficiently senior level in a complex organisation of scale and equivalent experience of relevance to Governing Authority membership in areas such as:
- Governance and oversight
- Education, research and innovation
- Law, compliance and public policy
- Human resources and organisational development
- Finance, audit and risk management
- Business, industry and entrepreneurship
- Community and civic engagement

Selection Process
This Selection Process will launch 17th of July 2026
To express an interest in becoming an external member of Governing Authority, candidates will complete the following:
- An expression of interest form
- A self-assessment using the Competency Framework
- Attach a two-page Candidate Profile demonstrating how the individual meets the competencies they have assessed themselves as having.
A Nominations Committee appointed by Governing Authority will review prospective candidates and make recommendation to Governing Authority of the two most suitable candidates. Governing Authority will consider the recommendation and approve two individuals as external members of Governing Authority to take office on 8th November 2026.
A term of office for a selected external member will be for a period determined by Governing Authority but will not exceed four years.
