  • Academic partnership brings together the strengths of both universities to enhance student learning and career opportunities.

Graduates from Architecture, Biomedical Sciences, Industrial Physics and Art and Design Education were among those recognised at a joint conferring ceremony held by University College Cork (UCC) and Munster Technological University (MTU) on Friday, 16 October.

The ceremony brought together graduates, families, friends and academic staff from UCC and MTU to mark the completion of programmes delivered through collaboration between the two institutions.

111 graduates were conferred with qualifications across a range of disciplines, including Architecture BSc (Hons),  Biomedical Sciences BSc (Hons), Industrial Physics BSc (Hons), Master of Architecture and Professional Master of Education (Art and Design).

The occasion celebrated the ongoing academic collaboration between UCC and MTU in delivering programmes that equip graduates with the knowledge and skills to contribute across industry, research and wider society.

UCC President Professor John O’Halloran MRIA said: “Our partnership with MTU brings together the strengths of two universities to offer students a distinctive educational experience, drawing on the expertise, facilities and opportunities of both institutions. Today, we celebrate 111 graduates whose achievements reflect the value of that collaboration. I warmly congratulate each of them and look forward to the contribution they will make in their chosen fields in Ireland and beyond.”

MTU President Professor Maggie Cusack said: “What makes today particularly special is the range of ways in which these graduates will go on to make a difference. Some will help design the buildings of tomorrow, others will contribute to advances in healthcare and science or inspire future generations through art and design education. Their studies have demanded creativity, technical expertise and dedication, and today is a celebration of everything they have achieved. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to each of our graduates and celebrate the commitment of colleagues who have supported them in their education, from both MTU and UCC.”

The joint conferring ceremony marks the beginning of UCC’s Autumn Conferrings, during which more than 5,600 students will graduate. View the full schedule.
