Planning seminar on city centre property development

10 Nov 2015

The UCC Planning students held a seminar with John Cleary, MD of JCD Commerical Property Developers - one of Ireland's leading and most active property development companies. The seminar addressed some of the interactions between the planning process and the property development industry, as well as focussing on a range of large scale urban regeneration issues in Cork and across Ireland. The seminar concluded with a short presentation by the planning students and a discussion with John Cleary about a key city centre regeneration site.

The M.Plan programme values the inputs of those directly and indirectly involved in planning processes from a range of public, private and voluntary sectors. External engagement forms an important part of the teaching and learning as part of the programme, and this includes a a wide variety of contributions from individuals from these sectors. This is John Cleary's second visit to the the Planning school, and this type of interaction is an important part of a teaching approach for a profession which relies heavily on engagement, consultation and negotiation skills and competencies.
