CONTESTED ISLAND: IDENTITY CONFLICT & SETTLEMENT IN IRELAND

Credits

The School welcomes students who take the course for credit and those who choose not to enrol for credit. 

• International Summer School in Irish Studies: History, 5 ECTS Credits (two weeks)

This module explores major themes and events in Ireland’s past, from the remarkably creative culture of medieval Ireland to the quest for political independence in modern times. It examines the cultural influences evident in the art and literature of medieval Ireland, and modern attempts to reclaim that past leading to the cultural revival that heralded the political changes of modern Irish history. • International Summer School in Irish Studies – Irish Identities in Context – 5 ECTS Credits (two 
  weeks)

This module explores changes in Irish identity expression with special emphasis on the historical contexts and consequences of these changes. It examines the constructions of identity as responses to historical developments, attempts to construct 'normative' identity, and challenges to the assumptions of national and ethnic identity. Optional Introductory classes in the Irish language are provided for interested students as part of the Irish Studies programme.
