This year, UCC's Innovation Week will take place from 9th - 13th March.
Innovation Week aims to highlight the breadth of innovative activity taking place across the UCC campus and to encourage UCC students, graduates, and researchers alike to consider how their ideas and research can be developed to deliver economic and societal impact.
The week opens on Monday with a panel discussion with UCC President Prof John O’ Halloran, Director General of the Irish Universities Association (IUA) Paul Johnston, Head of Public Engagement and Research at Research Ireland Rachel Iredale, and Irish Centre for Maternal and Child Health Research (INFANT) Director Prof Geraldine Boylan, on “The role of Universities in driving innovation and supporting national competitiveness” to discuss the increasing importance of innovation and productivity as a national priority and how universities and UCC can help to deliver on Ireland’s strategic needs in productivity, sustainability, and innovation. UCC Innovation’s Impact Report for 2025 will also be launched at this opening event. A workshop for staff from the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences taking place on Tuesday 10th March will explore how IP is generated from their respective disciplines, and how it can be managed, protected and translated into impact. On Thursday 12th March, Ryanair DAC CEO Eddie Wilson will join Prof Anthony McDonnell, Dean of Cork University Business School (CUBS) at UCC as part of their CUBS Leadership Conversation Series for an interview-style discussion, followed by a Q&A session.
Other events during the week include workshops with the new Research Ireland ARC Hubs for ICT and HealthTech discussing upcoming open funding calls and how researchers can apply for funding to Accelerate Research to Commercialisation. UCC’s College of Medicine and Health and the HSE are hosting a session to highlight innovation collaboration opportunities, as well as available supports and opportunities for future partnerships between UCC, the HSE and industry. Innovation Week will also feature a workshop on Enterprise Ireland research commercialisation supports, an information session on academic consultancy, training on intellectual property, and an online session on Design Thinking.
