MRC Expert Group on Environmental Management

Debbie and Katelyn from the CDC and Dymtro from the Data Centre travelled to Vientiane, Laos in February of this year to give a Water Quality Monitoring training workshop.

The workshop was hosted by the Mekong River Commission (MRC) and gathered participants from the MRC participant countries already involved in environmental management particularly laboratory analysis of freshwater samples and the reported of results. Participants came from Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand and Laos.

Many topics were discussed including:

  • ways to monitor water bodies including physical, chemical parameters as well as biological means
  • advice and options for data storage, sharing, presentation and analysis
  • how to prepare a water quality report
  • how to review and evaluate an existing monitoring programme

The workshop went very well and gave us the opportunity to discuss the main interests and issues faced by the participants in their regions. We were delighted to work with the MRC and look forward to future collaborations.
