Ruth and colleagues at Health Enhancing Physical Activity (HEPA) Europe presenting on evidence-based falls exercise management interventions

Dr Ruth McCullagh, PI for the FaME Ireland research project, along with international collaborators Profs Skelton, Orton and Horgan, hosted a symposium titled 'Including older adults in health enhancing physical activity: learning lessons from implementing an evidence-based falls prevention intervention in different healthcare contexts and countries' at the recent HEPA Europe Conference in Dublin.
The symposium explored the experiences of establishing, implementing and evaluating FaME programmes in a number of settings across UK and Ireland. Chaired by Professor Frances Horgan from the RCSI, the presentations included:
- FaME: Falls Management Exercise for those at high risk or intermediate risk of falls. Improving habitual physical activity, physical function and reducing falls (Professor Dawn Skelton, Professor of Aging and Health, Glasgow Caledonian University, UK)
- Lessons learned on implementation and scalability of FaME in the UK (Professor Elizabeth Orton, University of Nottingham, UK)
- FaME Ireland: improving Reach, Effectiveness, Value and Sustainability in Ireland: Case Studies for Learning (Dr Ruth McCullagh, University College Cork, Ireland)
