Brain Tumour Researcher Networking Event Brings Together Cancer Researchers and Clinicians

Cancer Research @UCC Hosts Event to Explore Collaborative Opportunities in Brain Tumour Research
The inaugural Brain Tumour Researcher Networking Event, organised by Professor Jack Gleeson of Cancer Research @UCC in collaboration with Dr Lily Keane of APC Microbiome Ireland and Mr Wail Mohammed, Consultant Neurosurgeon at CUH, brought together patient advocates, senior researchers and clinicians from the university and hospital settings to share knowledge and explore potential collaborations for future brain tumour research.
Patient Advocate Finbarr Pyne spoke of the patient experience of clinical trials
The event, enabled by funding from the Irish Cancer Society, aimed to provide a platform for attendees to introduce their respective fields to a wider audience of senior researchers and identify areas where interdisciplinary efforts could be beneficial. Participants included experts from diverse areas of research and clinical practice, reflecting the complex nature of brain tumour studies.
Professor Jack Gleson, the event organiser, noted:
"We need everyone working together to tackle the challenges posed by brain tumours. This event was a great opportunity to bring a diverse group of experts together in the same room to develop impactful research that will ultimately benefit our patients."
The programme included short presentations, group discussions, and networking opportunities. While the focus was on exploring ideas for future collaboration, participants also highlighted the importance of sustained dialogue in addressing gaps in research and treatment.
The event concluded with plans to foster further collaborative projects in the near future. Cancer Research @UCC hopes this initiative will contribute to a broader understanding of brain tumours and, over time, lead to improvements in patient outcomes.
